Pros: They look professional and secure

Cons: They cost money and can often be opened with a swift hit from a hammer

Our solution: A flowerpot with the keys beneath it used only on the rare occasion we can't meet the guests personally.

@Rita2164  We use deadbolt door locks with codes, but sometimes the guest will also lock the interior "safety" lock and shut the door, effectively locking themselves out.  We keep a lockbox with the key for this extra lock in a location that is not obvious, i.e., away from the door and not at eye height.

If you are wanting to keep a lockbox for the primary key, then you want to have it also in a location that while convenient is not obvious -- I have stayed at AirBnBs where the lockbox was hanging on the door knob like a realtors box, which was incredibly tacky.   The best location that I have ever seen was a decorative letter box on the wall near the door with the lockbox mounted inside it.
