Management of keys for House

Hi,

For anyone who is out of town how do you manage key arrangements for the guest and cleaning services?

@Susan6080  You need to have lockbox or digital door lock and a local co-host or staff.  If you are an out-of-town owner, as I was for many years, a co-host or private cleaning person can assist you in ensuring that guests are able to access the accommodation, have any guest issues handled quickly, and cleaning takes place immediately after the guest has departed.

Thank you for the response. Will look into it

Hi @Susan6080 , that's a great question! Many hosts often discuss about smart locks and lock boxes as a method to exchange keys with guests. Did you get a chance to look into smart locks or lock boxes as hosts Lorna and Siabh suggetsed?

I found this discussion that might be helpful to get more insights on the topic : HERE and HERE.

I am also reaching out to a few experienced hosts if they have any tips or ideas on how to manage key arrangements for the particular situations you mentioned above : @Emmanuel9 @Greg2406 @Greystone0 @Marisa182 . Looking forward to the insights from our helpful hosts!

Do keep us posted on how you're thinking to solve the issue!

If internet is reliable where your property is located, then yes a smart lock, similar to the Kwikset Halo is the way to go.   It is both wi-fi ready as well as the 'smart' key lock.  These features allow the rapid code changes as well as mobile phone app by Kwikset.   We have used these particular locks for many years.   If the wi-fi were to ever go out and you, the cleaning crew, or Guests need access, we suggest a backup combination lock, like the Master Lock wall mounted security box that has the backup key inside.   One of the best security features is the ability to re-key the Smart Lockset to another different key whenever necessary.   And we always do after a Guest has had to use the keyset when wi-fi has been down,..we keep a dozen different keys for this purpose.   Takes less than 30 seconds to rekey the lock.   kwikset halo.jpg
