I am considering purchasing a property specifically to rent it out.

Does anybody know of a source of rental statistics for any given town? How frequently units get rented, average prices charged, etc.

I have hear alot of Hosts use AirDNA (subscription fee).

There are lots of sources of data including from your local tourist board, Airdna, local estate agents, your town economic development team etc @Daniel11621 

You would need to do your own market research by looking on STR platforms and seeing what your competitors charge.
