Naming our property - What do you think?

We have a large property on a glacier made lake on the Oregon Coast.  The property is large with winding pathways, grass and sits on the water with a dock.  We currently have a sign in the driveway that reads Gib's Landing with a sketch of our chow on it.  With regard to listing the property I feel like Landing might be confusing for people and we should include the word 'retreat' or 'house' as well.  I am stuck, help!

@Lisa5141  Having lived in coastal British Columbia for 35 years, I don't find it confusing at all- it means a place on the water. I guess you could add "retreat" to it, but I don't think it's really necessary- it'll be obvious from photos that it's a house.

Thank you Sarah.  I think it is self-explanatory also, especially if you are familiar with the term.  I appreciate your thoughts.

@Lisa5141 I don't know what you mean by a sketch of your chow, but Gib's Landing is a perfectly fine name for the property itself. However, it might not be the best title for your listing - a little more descriptive text or a very catchy hook would help the listing stand out more in Search.

I should have been more specific about the sketch,  It is an outline drawing of our chow dog for whom the property is named.  I vacillated on the name because the house is also the site of the original homestead property for the lake.  The name of the homestead family is also the name of the street.  I decided to not use this though as there are already rental properties down the road who have incorporated the name into their houses.  The term landing really suits the property, along with terms like lake front, coastal and retreat.

@Lisa5141 I think any name that suits your style and brings you joy is the best one. Guests are unlikely to give it any thought, unless it seems to reference something controversial (like,i wouldn't call my Berlin flat "Hitlers Hacidenda"). If your concern is maximizing bookings, I'd say a good listing title - along with lead photo and nightly price - are the three pillars of first impressions.

Actually, my own hesitation as a guest would be the chow chow. I absolutely love dogs, and I have nothing but bad experiences with that breed, seeing as how they were bred for extreme loyalty and have a reputation for hostility to outsiders. Yours is probably a well- trained and friendly kind, but if I wasn't assured of that in advance I would avoid staying somewhere with a chow on site. Especially when traveling with my small dog.

Hi Andrew,

We named the property after our chow who passed a few years ago so your small dog would be quite safe and have free run of the property.  Thank you for your feedback!
