Question about $30,000 HST in Canada

Hi, folks,

As a new host in Canada, I have a question about the following statement:

"The “Small Supplier” rule states that you do not have to register for the GST/HST if your revenue remains under $30,000 in the last four calendar quarters, or in any single calendar quarter – where a quarter is 3 months. So if your revenue exceeds $30,000, then you must register for the GST/HST."

As my house is owned by both my wife and myself, does the $30,000 refer to both of us in total, or $30,000 per person ($60,000 for both)?

Thank you!

Tie

Hi Tie, I'm in the same situation and wondering the same thing! Did you find an answer?

We also received the message from Airbnb about filling out an exemption tax form. However, it seems more related to USA filers. I believe I had seen an option for "no HST/GST #" but I can't find it again. Of note, when you try to do the math from the guest's side, if Airbnb charges them, it's more than the ~3% service fee but less than a 13%(ON) HST.
