Question re: Custom Trip Lengths

Hi, I recently set some Custom Trip lengths and now that it's getting closer to the first set of dates, I want to change the trip length minimum and am not able to do so. I can't even see what the trip length I set is. I did this through the regular calendar, not Pro Tools. Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround?

Hi @Kathleane0 , @Shelley159 @Elaine701 , @Joelle43

I opted in for the new release and the process to access the trip length has changed. Here's where it went:

instead of accessing via the 'month view' as shown in this thread

you access via the 'first' calendar click - the one where the dates are all stretched out from left to right and you have to scroll horizontally to see future dates. And then the rest is sort of the same.

You can see on the right hand side that the 'custom' trip length that you may have created in the past are now visible and you can also create a new rule set/trip length

So, to change a trip length you go to the dates you wish to change and highlight/click to select - you will see on the right side a drop down with "Rule sets" and you can select accordingly.

Good luck!

Hello @Kathleane0

You're right - that setting has completely disappeared from the regular calendar and although I can see it on my phone, when I click on that I get a blank page!

This latest update has got to be the worst one ever in my 4 years of hosting.  There are so many bugs and so many vital options that have been removed for absolutely no reason😡

Has the tech team been replaced by AI as well???

The workaround would be to activate Professional Tools Kathleen - I use these and can change my minimum stays by going onto the Multi Calendar - made some changes this morning in fact.

Maybe you're running a different version of the app or something, but on the one I'm using, you can simply click on a range of dates in the calendar, and set the price and minimum days for those dates. Or block or unblock.

Be advised, that if you set a minimum higher than the number of days selected, then they will be blocked.

Anyway, I find this way much easier than the old way, where you couldn't do it directly on the calendar.

Yes @Elaine701 I think it's the new update that you're referring to - it looks like the black block in the screenshot in my reply to the post.

The problem with it is that you don't get the "minimum nights" option at all when you click a date that has a rule. You have to go and set a new rule on the desktop that incorporates the trip length.

Hi @Kathleane0 @Joelle43

Not good news I'm afraid. I don't think they'll bring it back. They say it creates the possibility for too many layers of different trip lenghts. I can understand what they mean, as you could set a general minimum, set minimums per day of the week on the regular calendar, and add rule sets on top of that. Custom lengths was then also in the mix, so it could get very messy.

Now they want us to use this new feature instead, where you click a day and add a minimum for that particular day:

The issue I have with it, is that the option isn't there when you click a night with a rule. Support says for nights with rules we have to add the trip length to the rule. That means many new rules, unfortunately, to cater for all different trip lengths. It also means no changing a trip length on the go if a night has a rule (you can only do it on a desktop).

I mentioned by concern, but I don't think they'll change it (at least not by bringing back custom trip lengths - I got the impression custom trip lengths were causing havoc and they want it gone).

Yes @Greystone0

Those of us who have opted in for the Pro Tools can continue to add/modify our trip lengths but this is not the case for those who just have the regular calendar.

Maybe Airbnb want all hosts to transition towards the Pro Tools?  Who knows though???

Yes @Greystone0

As @Joelle43 has said, you're using the professional tools multi-calendar when you do that. Trip length has always been there.

As explained, you can only set the trip length there as part of a rule. You'll have to make new rules to allow for different trip lengths. It's only accessible to hosts who have professional hosting tools turned on and you have to do it from a desktop.

Thank you everybody for your help. I didn't want to switch to Pro Tools because I don't like how the calendar looks on my screen. It's a bit harder for my brain to grasp the scope of a month's bookings - however Pro Tools fixed this and will make a lot of other things much easier. Before coming here, I searched ABnB's  help section and couldn't find anything to address this. They allow you to set a trip length in the the regular (non Pro Tools) calendar, then you're stuck and not able to see what those settings are or change them.
