I don't even know what a TIN is, and why is an American company demanding it?

Are we Brits going to have to give this kind of information ?

And why - as if we couldn't guess.

@Guy26 Airbnb have an agreement, as they should, to supply the Inland Revenue with data as to how much we have earned from Airbnb over the UK tax year. Provided you are not evading your taxes this should not be a concern.

How do I get a Tax Identification? It won't let me verify without one and I have no idea how to get one or if I even need one - I'm just letting my flat not starting a business

@Noel711 I would try your. 'Unique Taxpayer Reference' which you will find on gov.uk if you do tax self assessment.
