Our City after going back and forth about whether to allow or ban short term rentals for years finally decided to ban them. We complied with their initial request to stop hosting short term rentals and are now coming to us requesting tot going back to all rentals under 30 days. What have you been recommending hosts to do in these cases and if we are required to provide the documentation and pay are you able to provide that information?

Hello @Nolan31
This is not Airbnb this is a community of hosts and guests.
if STR restrictions are brought in for your area for a minimum 30 day stay - then set your listing up with that as a minimum stay.
your local government will advise you of any licensing, fees or paperwork you might need to be compliant with their STR legislation which you then need to complete

@Nolan31 , so Fountain Valley finally decided to ban STRs. I wonder how they can determine how much you owe in TOT? From what I understand the statute of limitations pertaining to the collection of TOT tax is four years. I assume the city will have to rely on self reporting (your word) as I’m not sure Airbnb will cooperate in supplying documentation showing earnings for past month(s)/year(s).
Best of Luck….
@Nolan31 what would anyone recommend other than to pay what is legally payable?
