Toronto Bylaw requires short term rentals to post an emergency exit diagram in the space.
Any idea where to get this done?
Hi @Claudia4105 , have you found any resources for creating an emergency evacuation plan or diagram for guests?
Host @Zheng49 had started this discussion in the Community some time ago, where many Hosts shared their insights. 👉Emergency Evacuation Plan👈
Host @Jean174 had also created a wonderful guide around this topic to help our Hosts : 👉Providing important safety information for guests 👈
Hope the above resources help!
I am also inviting Hosts who participated in that discussion if they have any additional suggestions for your case : @John5097 @Zheng49 @Jean174 @Debra300 @Raluca54 🌻
You can do it yourself with floorplanner.com. I've found it pretty easy to use, although the free version does leave a large logo on your plan. I drew out a more-or-less to scale plan of the floor with doors and windows shown. Then I used their signs to indicate exits and location of fire extinguisher and first aid kit. They have a circled A symbol that I used to indicate the location of smoke alarms.
Another question - is the fire safety plan a requirement on top of the emergency exit diagram in the room too?
and they told me I need a lighted exit box signage above the exit too, and a fire alarm system - are all these a bylaw required??
Hi! I just received a fraudulent letter that claimed to be from the Ontario Government informing me that I violated the Ontario Building Code for not clearly outlining a fire safety plan. It had a $500 fine and a link to make payment! This letter is fraud!
I am not aware of any Toronto bylaw that requires short term rentals to post an emergency exit diagram. @Claudia4105 are you able to post a link to the bylaw or the bylaw number?
Hi Brynn,
I just received the same letter today! I am trying to verify if it is real or fraudulent. Were you able to follow up?
Yes, there is a bylaw requiring an emergency exit diagram. But that letter sounds like fraud.
I got the same letter. We don’t even have any guests and there is a link to pay via a third party. Seems like fraud to me especially with such an exorbitant fee. There is no name it’s addressed to as well besides “homeowner” which is a red flag.
