Using our own airbnb when our primary residence is being remodeled
Hey everyone! We had water damage at our primary residence and need to stay elsewhere for a couple of months during the rebuild. Our insurance says we can get a hotel room with a kitchen etc (which is like $250/night) but we'd like to just block our airbnb to renters and stay there. Obviously then we lose income, so we still feel our insurance company should reimburse us as if we are renting our own house.
My question is has anyone else done this?

@Michelle-and-Jeff2 Just talk to the insurance company. Most are very reasonable and will agree to something like this if it makes financial sense to them. You may have to negotiate less than the full hotel bill as they would typically negotiate lower rates with hotels and they can, in some jurisdictions, claim back VAT.
