Airbnb cancelled a guests trip after they had already stayed the night and checked out

I believe this had to do with the guest's current payment methods being expired. I had no way of knowing this upon the day of check in. As per usual, I shouldnt see any payment until her scheduled check out the following day. To my surprise I see an automated message that the guests trip was cancelled that following morning. Im unable to go through the send/request money channels because as far as airbnb is concerned this stay never happened. The guest has now understandably gone completely dark on me. How is this AT ALL acceptable and why isnt airbnb pressuring the user to update payment sources or come up with that money on the evening of check in?

@Joe221 - look at your transaction history to see the status of the reservation. https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/425/when-will-i-get-my-payout

If the payout information is not there, you need to contact Airbnb directly.  Go to the Tutorial and Tips section of the forums and find the Contact Airbnb tutorial for all the ways to contact them.

This just happened to me! I am frustrated and incredulous. Why was the guest given all my check in info without a valid payment option? I feel very taken advantage of. Was there any resolution, @Joe221?

Hi Jessie, still working through this with fading hope. All record of her ever contacting me or the at-one-time confirmed reservation is gone because of it being labeled 'cancelled' and the passage of time. The woman seems to have removed her airbnb account entirely but Im attempting to get her email address. But even at that point she can continue to ignore, and wont really be bound to pay since theres no proof beyond my word that she stayed the night. In the end Im likely hoping for karmic justice. Do whatever you can to make sure a paper trail remains.

@Joe221   I don't understand how this could happen? Don't guests need to pay the full amount upfront in order to have a confirmed reservation? Guest is charged and must pay ABB the full amount at time of reservation, ABB holds onto the money, then issues a payout to the host the day after check-in.

Hi guys,  This almost happens to me but my guest sorted out his CC and payment went thru but before that happens, I got an email from ABB saying that:

-"The attempt to charge your guest, ******, for the amount due for reservation ********** from 15 October, 2017 - 09 December, 2017 was unsuccessful. The reservation is still active at this time, and we've sent ******* an email alert with a direct way to pay the balance.
If your guest successfully submits payment, we'll send you a confirmation email right away. If you have questions about the payment problem, you can reach out to your guest.
If your guest doesn't successfully submit payment or if they cancel the reservation before making the payment, Airbnb isn't liable for issuing your host payout. If you prefer to cancel the reservation, you can cancel without penalty at any time before the trip begins. If the reservation has started and you'd like to cancel, please send us a note.
We appreciate your understanding.

The Airbnb Team"-
This email came close to the completion of this guest's stay.   So, I have never asked my guests for his credit card info, nor I enter in any negotiation regarding payment, ABB did and yet, they claim they are not "liable" for paying me after my service was almost done.   Moreover ABB tell you not to do any business out of airbnb for your own safety, oh okay, you mean like not being paid?   What kind of company is this?  Is it run by trump or something?     They are the middle man between me and the guest but only if the guest pays, otherwise they are not liable.
It should be some sort of legislation about this.   It doesn't sounds right or fair to me.   Good luck to all of us.
