Found the Perfect Place to Stay.... was approved then suddenly it's off the market.

I'm looking for a place to stay near my former neighborhood in Phoenix/Scottsdale. Anxious to return with my hubby and meet up with my son whose flying in from Tokyo for the holidays. I found the PERFECT location, perfect price, perfect size. I join, contact the seller before we put a deposit down. And then wait. Waited for 24 hrs to hear back. I get texted 3 times that I am free to book the property but right on the heels of the approval, comes a txt from a separate number saying "DON'T BOOK". So right away there's a problem. I txt back and wait hours for an answer. Apparently the location hadn't increased their pricing for the holiday. I'm told the place is off the market till they know what's going on. I wait another 12- 24 hours. I txt back 3 times to ask if it will be back. What the new price might be. They tell me it's now $100 more per night. I tell them maybe I can still do it - not sure. But will they be putting it back up on the market? I'd like the right of first refusal.  No answer. I ask if it was a "bait & switch". No answer. I send one more e-mail asking if the price is negotiable. Saying it looks wierd that it's there - then it's gone - then it's almost twice the price.  But it's the exact location we're looking for.  So today I get a txt back that the offer is recinded. And my "host" doesn't want me because she think's I'm trouble or words to that effect.

I think the whole thing was kind of fishy.

Am I the only one who's had an experience like that?

@Jesse62 - Not all hosts do the right thing and keep their prices up to date.  If you had just gone ahead and booked the property, assuming it was an Instant Book Listing, the host would have been bound to host you at the price you booked or be penalized for cancelling you.  It's not a perfect system because hosts are not all the same.

If you want to try again, get your profile Verified.  Many Instant Book hosts require this as a measure to ensure the booking guest has been vetted.  Look for SuperHosts or hosts that have been around for a while.  They typically will be more on top of their listing and calendar.

Thank you for letting me know. This is my first experience with airbnb and I wasn't sure what the process was. I filled in all the paperwork, but don't know if that means I'm verified. Will do as you suggest. Thanks.
