ATTENTION TO AIRBNB HOSTS WITH UNCONVENTIONAL LISTINGS IN WASHINGTON:
As you all have probably heard, the new code which became effective January 2019, short term rentals are not allowed in any type of structure that is not a permitted dwellings. This means no tiny houses, yurts, RVs, tree houses and so many other precious structures that really make amazing vacation homes. The enforcement is unclear but the fines and penalty are massive.
However! Legislation is up for public hearing that would make it legal for structures under 400 sq ft to be considered dwellings and then this would make most of our unconventional Airbnbs legal again!
The Washington Tiny House Association has been working for over a year to get these two bills in front of the State senate. It took over ten years before that to get Tiny Code Appendix into the International Residential Code.
This is NOT a debate about how the code is written, that was a process that already happened over the course of years. This is about having Washington ADOPT the code which has already been put into the code books.
THEN this code will be up for debate to be adopted county by county.
