Uk tax return for pensioners

Hi

My husband is on a basic state pension and I am on even less with a small teachers' pension. We have only earned a small about with Airbnb in the UK. to top up the pension. Our income has been about 3.5k over 12 months and is set to increase due to opening another room but is still only likely to be around 9K for this year.  Someone has told me that we will have to complete a tax return as our pension is included as income. Is this correct? I have not completed one previously because I thought our earnings were below the threshold and hadn't considered our pensions.

@Sue642 pensions are income but there are ways and means around most things.

Have a read about the rent a room scheme, you can earn £7500 tax free renting out a room.
