hi community,
8 year guest, 60+ stays in several countries, frequent nyc stay booker, and 1 year host. all positive reviews. till now 😞
in vetting a spot in bushwick bk (nyc) i asked the host about window AC when i saw pictures that conflicted--two open windows and 1 barred window/one with AC. the AC ammenity tick was check but i asked for confirmation (i always do) there was AC in the message thread. he responded in the affirmative. at arrival surprise surprise, no AC and no concern whatsoever that there wasn't one.
tried a search of review and hotel but came up with nothing. i swear i saw in the past here or airbnb help that a host cannot state that a guest would be better or or had expectations of that of a hotel stay was T&C ToS content policy violation no no. am i hallucinating?
Response from Cc (he has a total of 3 reviews, the 4th was an auto cancel)
Lady has issues refer to my other reviews please . Sounds like you expect a hotel not a place where someone else lives.
Review from Cc
Bad guest, will complain about the littlest things to try to get a free nights stay . BEWARE
Private Feedback: Karma is real enjoy.
airbnb said no review policy violation? how is this allowable? aside from a complete disconnect, its retalitory, at best, and threatening. nothing to do with reality (which i know airbnb doesn't care about) but what about the former?
i'm stuck with this i guess, punk a$$ host 😞

if you are a detail person, here's the context
his street and house number were only available via messaging had i noticed in the booking confirmation the address only said brookyn and a zip, i would have contacted him (and probabaly airbnb) prior. prior to arrival there were address issues, at arrival there were minor (key) lockbox code snafus that could have turned major (they didn't). upon room entry around 8pm (long, long after his 11am checkout time) no window AC (first thing i looked for) he said the last guest broke the AC. i literally slumped over. AC is my biggy. i am 210% heat and humidity intolerant.
i had no time to change space due to arrival for an event at 10pm. the outside air was cool (thank god) but there outside access to the windows via the fire escape that i didn't know about. i'm a pretty brave and non skiddish solo traveler. but this was unerving. plus it was super humid and expected to rain. it eventually started to pour.
the exchange with host, that i tried to keep factual and productive resulting in the type of young, immature host that got defensive and dismissed my primary (AC) and subsequent (safety due to fire escape access to windows i didn't know about, no window bars, cat pee smell in room, rumpled unfresh smelling linens, dirty pillows under cases, no bathoom soap or hand towels, filmy shower door, a filty kitchen--the fridge was utterly disgusting and unsuited for use that i quickly snapped photos of). oh well the guest broke the AC, no idea the smell-don't have a cat, oh well no soap, use the shower soap (there was none) use your bath sheet for a hand towel etc. so the ammenity, safety/security, cleanliness issues became a IDGaF host servicing issue that eventually resulted in him telling me i was looking for things to complain about. i'm sure he didn't know but in the US there are standard ammenity requirements.
i asked upfront how many full time inhabitants and any other guests? he said just me. he lives there with his gf (who was delightful) and her (adorable lovey) dog. luckily i'm pitt bull friendly.
i admit i sometimes take a chance on newer listings without ample reviews, especially in a last minute "rush". or certain seeming "types" of host. have had only 1-2 problems. nyc is notorious for money grabs but i've been pretty good at avoiding. i'm a no frills traveler, out all day and night, sleep 5-8 hours repeat, i don't need extras--just a comfy bed, cooled (temp), safe, clean space the less cluttered the better. this i booked last minute, but not without scrutiny (that did not good) budget options near the venue were limited, but $65 a night in BK with or without cleaning fees is about what i average over 5 years and i've had 1-2 iffy stays but never had a single bad review in probably 10-15 trips over 8 years. i thought it vetted him, maybe he lied (about AC) but didn't care and offered no recourse, not even an apology.
all that's not even an issue now, the review content is ok?????? i wish i would have bookmarked what i swear i read about not being allowed to say guest expected hotel services (i didn't, don't, never do)
