August Lock & check-out times: Suggestion

We recently added an August Smart Lock to our property and the integration with Airbnb has been fairly seemless. Our guests understand how to use it and it's been great to not have to use a lock box. 

However, we've been experiencing a frequent problem when guests check out: Rarely do they leave exactly on time. Our check out time is noon, but many guests end up walking out the door at 12:01 or 12:10. We are totally fine with this, but after 12 p.m., August immediately revokes their lock permissions, so they are unable to lock the house when they leave. They usually message us flustered and we have to remotely lock the door manually (thankfully we purchased the extra Connect device that bridges the lock with wifi).

Has anyone else experienced this headache? I suggest that Airbnb pad the check-out time with a 30-minute grace period. We could of course change our checkout time, but then guests will simply leave a few minutes after THAT new time. This small change will make the August experience so much more valuable.

@Marc28 Why not just turn on auto-lock so that the lock will lock automatically?

You're right. But we're a bit concerned about someone locking themselves out without their phone (forgetting about the autolock).

@Marc28 Maybe you can ask the August developers to enable a grace-period feature. I'm sure this would be useful for many of their customers, and would not be difficult for their developers to implement.

I will definitely do so. Just figured that Airbnb would be the gatekeeper of the access time windows, not August.

Can someone tell me how to set up the August Smart Lock  to integrate with Airbnb? I have searched the website and it is eluding me.

How did you pair the August lock.  A number of people, including myself, are unable to find any information on either the Airbnb site or the August site.

We have gotten our lock working and if you want the lock to forget the people and erase them its all done by your check out time. Put it later or we will go in manually and extend it if they have special need.
