Damage deposit

I have airbnb setup to take a $100 refundable damage deposit.  I'm not sure where this money goes.  Is it charged to the renter and then refunded unless I tell airbnb not to?  Is it in anyway included in the money that I, as an owner, receive?  I am confused.

It is just an authorisation on their credit card to the agreed amount should you need to make a claim. They don't pay this money upfront to you or AirBnB

Thank you for your help.  Getting airbnb on the phone to answer a simple question is near impossible.
