Do potential guests who are hosts have their listing hidden when enquiring ?

I had a potential guest today ask in a roundabout way for a discount ( I assume that, as he asked it the price was fixed as he wanted to stay but it was out of their price range!) I then noticed it said he was also an airbnb host, but couldn't see which property he hosted. That  info wasn't available?

Is it standard that as hosts our listings are hidden when we  want to book listings as guests, does anyone know?

Thanks Tif x

I'm not sure that's right @Tif1 - though I could be wrong, so far I've been able to see guest listings in their profile.  That said, a lot of things have changed lately!

Hmm, weird. Perhaps it is just this one then. When I go to the profile there is no listing for him

@Tif1  ahh I see, where it says "Also a host" - how weird...

@Tif1  @Ben551  as this is only an inquiry, is there actually an option to see the profile at all ?

Personally, I would politely decline, telling them to look for properties that are within their budget.  Bargain hunters are often bad news.

@Marit-Anne0 You’re probably right. I just always get my wife to check people out on her profile. Then nothing is blocked or hidden, so I can never tell what would be blocked for me.

@Marit-Anne0Hej Marit, och he på dig  från Sverige 😉

this is a new thing I noticed today, when I open the message on the left side it shows the info as above and you can also see guest  reviews but not a photo of the potential guest. It is the first time I have noticed that it details if someone is a host, which is a good feature I think, but it would be good to be able to read about them as hosts too. So I do wonder if airbnb are hiding that from us too 😞

I did reply and say the price is as is, and we don't do discounts so I think that covers it.

@Tif1

We are no longer supposed to see the photo of potential guests until a booking has been concluded.  Anti-discrimination is the reason given.

@Tif1

Click on "View Profile."

@Suzanne302

I did that initially,  and it shows nothing about him being a host anywhere, just his first name and a few reviews 😉 so I guess this is also a part of the non discrimination/no photo thing. We cannot see other hosts listings, unless they are confirmed bookings perhaps

@Tif1

Yeah, that's really weird.

The last few booking requests I've had the profile picture was just a grey circle (per the non-discrimination/no photo thing) BUT, if I clicked to view their profile, their picture popped up! I was so confused and thought maybe just another glitch.

Oh well!
