Folks. Does anyone check the properties listed before they are listed?

I recently booked an apartment in Bucharest. We got there and the building it was in was truly scarey, the elevator and wiring of the apartment unsafe. We simply walked back out and left he keys as the owners conveniently were not present when we arrived.

There are no inspectors, @Bob274. It is kind of up to all of us. May I ask a couple of questions? Did that listing have previous reviews? Was the price too good to be true?

Did you write to the host at all? Did you contact Airbnb? Very importantly, did you write an honest review of the place? You won't want anyone else walking into that.

Go with places with good reviews. Yes, everyone has to start somewhere, and there are times when taking a chance is good, but when you are travelling from Australia to Romania, and especially when you are new yourself, you want to know what you are getting.

Hope your next experience is much better!

Hi @Bob274 ,

no, noone checks the properties before they are listed.

Inspecting 4 Million + airbnb listings would generate costs, which no company in the world, except maybe google, would be able to pay for.

@Ute42 and I forgot about Airbnb Plus listings, @Bob274. Those are inspected. You can find them at the top of your homepage.

But otherwise our guests are our inspectors.
