General moan- cancellations

General moan- cancellations

The more 'involved' and developed this service has become, the more onerous it appears for hosts. If there are still penalties (to a host) for cancelling, why have Instant Book at all? Why be penalised for so long for cancelling? Yes, we as hosts should honour bookings but on the flip side there seems to be a severe lack of control nowadays. I was a Superhost 3 periods running and lost my status because of one cancellation- a family emergency and no suitable friend to let the guest in.

Because of Instant Book (which I have just removed) I had an enquiry this morning for a one nighter (with a view to a mid-term twice weekly arrangement) which whilst in the process of considering received an Instant Book for the same night.

Any comments?

When a cancellation is necessary due to an emergency, you would need to contact airbnb with the issue. If they agree the cancellation comes under their extenuating circumstances terms, they will cancel for you penalty free.

Instant bookings are instant - if you cannot handle those, you would need to turn that feature off.  If you do not want last minute bookings, you would need to assist your settings to avoid them.

Thanks but re: the extenuating circumstances, they didn't refund and was recorded as a cancellation.

It's the general moan about lack of control which you don't address- altering settings doesn't help.

Maybe I misunderstood - I cannot see any host cancellations on your profile.

Maybe they removed it then 🙂 that's great news - thanks for this notification at least
