I would like to wish all community members who are celebrating Tet, Solar or Lunar New Years on their calendars from 5th February, the very best of good luck, prosperity for yourselves and your families; including good health and happiness for the Year of the 🐷 Pig.
If we have guests celebrating at this special time, some little extras may be greatly appreciated!
Have red visible, or wear red.
Provide some candy?
Have blossom, flowers or similar around.
Provide or gift some mandarins.
Have some dumplings or other favoured foods.
Work on what works for you and your guests.... Cheers!
@Cathie19. This is my first AirBNB year without a Chinese guest. Other years, I was making dumplings, simmering pork stock for a noodle soup, slicing vegetables for a stir fry, and wrapping gifts in bright red paper for the children. I always love to throw this type of gathering and enjoy the surprise of my guests when I create an event that feels like home but is not part of my own heritage.
Instead, I will deliver a small gift bag filled with tasty goodies to the hospital for a nurse who will be mighty touched that I thought of her on her new year.
What a lovely idea @Susan151. This year I’m in Darwin, but last year we got to spend Tet, Soellal, Chinese New Year in Georgetown, Penang Malaysia. I am more familiar with Tet, but love the joyful celebrations!
Happy Lunar New Year to everyone~!
It looks delicious @Jessica-and-Henry0. What is the dish in your second photo?

First pic is Japchae - stir-fried glass noodles and vegetables. This is a common dish prepared and eaten on special occasions such as birthdays or when there is something to celebrate.

Second pic is Tteokguk - Rice cake soup. This is a traditional dish we eat for the first meal (breakfast) of the New Year and grown ups will tell children they won't get a year older like everyone else if they don't eat their ttoekguk 🙂

Many people including Henry like dumplings (mandu) to their tteokguk - Henry is not partial to the rice cake slices so he likes his with lots of dumplings and only a few rice cake slices. I prefer more rice cake slices and maybe just one or two dumplings. We both like meat fillings for our dumplings. My parents both like oysters in their tteokguk with no dumplings.
新年快乐 !!!!!!!
Thanks @Cathie19.
Wishing everyone who is celebrating a very happy New Year, I hope you have a great celebration.

Hey @Lizzie, It's a mix of minced beef and minced pork. All of them are different as some of them have some seafood such as prawns mixed into them or vegetables!
The options are endless!
