Host damages

I have just had a guest leave who filled the washer and then dryer with sand. I mean a whole lot of sand, so much that our cleaners haven't (in their 25+ years) seen anything like it. They vacuumed it out, but every time you wash now things come out covered in sand and the dryer sounds like you are running a load of sand. They still technically work I guess, but for how long, we don't know. My question is do you think I charge the guest for this, or is this "wear and tear" of a rental. They also ruined a load of towels with make-up, despite us leaving making remover wipes and instructions not to use the towels. Do I just get over it, or request compensation? If I do, will they give me a bad review? Appreciate any opinions on this. Thanks!

Hi there, maybe in future you can ask for the 'deposit money'. You can claim the damage up to 48 hrs after the guests check out. For now, you may try to talk to airbnb customer service to resolve the problem. 🙂 good luck

I know how you feel and find it terribly sad and disaapointing that people will come into your home as a guest but when they damage things or ruin towels is a nightmare. I had a young lady who not only mucked me around with her travel arrangements with where and when that was but she also decided to dye her hair and then damaged my towels and the dye landed on my green carpet as well as the back of the bathroom door.

Who takes such liberty.

I would think you need to report that guest to Airbnb so they get banned for life and not given a chance to do such damage to other hosts.

All the best.

What a disappointment. Have you spoken to the guests at all to find out how all the sand came to be? Lots of kids on the playground? Beach?

They might be too embarrassed to broach the subject, but hosts need to get used to it. Decide what you want after talking to the guests, and use the Resolution Center to make a request after talking.

Personally, I see towels as consumables and budget for them. And maybe taking off a panel on your machines and vacuuming well would solve the sand issues.

Good luck.

Hi @Tim-and-Andrea0

Never be afriad to get a bad review if the guest did something wrong.

just tell them!

The review should not be a threat, otherwise things get wrost for every host.

If they damage your property you should ask them a compensation for the damage, call a techinician and ask for a quote.

good luck
