Reasons for declining guest

Do the guest see the reason that you are declining their request?

And if so: You're the host, it is your right to choose the guests.

Hi @Trina0, When you decline a request you can type in a message and the guest will see that.  I am quite sure that the guest does not see the reason next to the check box.  If you select "waiting for a better..." when declining, your calendar stays open for those dates.

How do we protect ourselves from being accused of discrimination if we decline a guest or cancel a reservation?  This subject is big in the news these days specific to Airbnb. I would not decline a request simply because of race or gender preference, but my property is a full house (not shared).  A host was removed from Airbnb because she declined a transgender guest stating that it would be uncomfortable for her son in the same house.  That in turn could make the guest uncomfortable.  So my thoughts are this is not a good guest/host match.  And it seems like a good reason for the guest to reveal their sexual orientation; otherwise it doesn't matter.  Second, it seems unfair that the host would be removed when the application would lead us to believe that we can decline if we want to. (There is an earlier post in this thread that says exactly that).
