Hi everyone!
Today I received an inquiry, where the guest asked me about the check out time, I kindly informed him that it is at 12:00 pm, after he insisted that he needed more time, I told him that I could give him 1 more hour (since we have to prepare the room for the guests checking in later). But he continued insisting, that he needed the check out time until 2 pm (2 more hours), after some more messages I decided to decline his inquiry, since he started to send aggresive messages.
But after I declined I started to receive very rageful messages from him, like: "You really know how to give an excellent service", or that it was not okay from my part to decline his inquiry just like that, and since I didn't answer he continued sending more messages.
That's when I confirmed that I did right declining his inquiry, because he was really a rageful person. I called airbnb and they helped to cancel the immediate reservations, because I was in fear that he would make a reservation through another profile, 15 mins later I received an inquiry, also from Cancún (where the rageful guest was from, which is 20 mins from my house), and I immediately thought that it was from the same people and decided to decline.
Has someone else been through this?
Right now I am very discouraged, because I really spend my time preparing everything for my guests, but this situations really make me fear that that kind of people arrive to my place.
PD. I have loved every single one of my guests that have arrived here, they are just simply the best, I am a little bit new, I have been in Airbnb since october.
It's astounding to me that anyone would be so persistent in insisting on trying to stay where they are obviously not welcome. If they felt they were being discriminated against for race, nationality, sexual orientation, etc, the thing to do would to be to report it to Airbnb, but continuing to force a host to accept the booking? Just can't wrap my mind around that.
@Sarah977 It does boggle the mind, especially in the case of my guest who booked and was rejected 3 times: take a hint, guy. In my case, the only discrimination was due to rudeness.
@Alexandra316 @Sarah977 same here, only discrimination was because of his rudeness, also because if you can see only through messages how aggresive a person is, definitely wouldn't want them in my house, because you never know what an aggresive person might do.
Even more challenging is when they book for 2 and show up with four (in house rules 2 max at any given time due to fire code) on the occupany date. They are still given an airbnb platform to malign, defame, extort you in airbnb public reviews if you challenge their integrity, utmost good faith.
Please hosts talk to your guests ahead of time and ask revealing questions like, why airbnb as opposed to a mainstream hotel? Local bookings can be a bad idea and also bookings palced within 24 hrs of booking date. Do not make money cause you to make bad decisions. It took an act of GOD and sepreme determination to have them remove a review posted by persons who booked 2 and showed up with 4. Ruined my superhost status and never occupied the unit as I objected based on lack of tranparency.
Cudos to two agents out of numerous attempts who listened and empathised.
Situation only represent .03% of my bookings but these types of bookings on the rise!
Good luck and thanks for sharing community.
Good to know we have each other support as hosts.
Hi Paul!
Yes, luckily most guests are not like that, but I learned with this experience to talk to the guests not only for giving them instructions (as I did at the beggining), but to ask them questions and to remind them of the house rules to confirm that they accept them.
Good luck Paul with your hosting
Hey @Ana1630 I suspect you dodged a bullet there. Hey, would you mind sending me the name of the guest in a private message? I noticed something on the Airbnb Blacklist the other day... I wonder if it's the same guy... would love to check.
