Search Results Position

I just checked on my friends computer to see where my airbnb listing was showing up in the search results. Our booking was on the 17th page! This might explain why we have all of a sudden had no bookings in the last 2 weeks compared to a month ago when we recieved a booking almost every day as a new listing. I am sure byt the time someone gets to the 4th page of results they have either booked or got bored and turned off the computer.

How can we help our listing go up the search results? Some places above us have 5 stars which is fine, but in order toget more rviews we have to have more bookings, so it's kind of an unfair system. Why does Airbnb not give suggestions or even tell us where we lie so that we are aware of this? Has anyone else experienced similar issues with a sudden drop in bookings?

Thanks

A few posts down someone from San Francisco had the same complaint.  Their bookings had suddenly dropped off.  From what I've read and heard, Airbnb recently had a huge push to get new hosts on board and in order to "get them established" the newbies get preferential placement in search results.  This pushes the rest of us "established" hosts down the ranks.  After newbies, the listings with some mixture of the best ratings, highest response time, and pricing seem to be prioritized.

Try keeping your calendar updated more often, changings the words in your listing, updating your pictures more often to get a little "bump." You can also try reducing your price to see if that helps?

Thanks @Cynthia-and-Chris1. I have dropped rates and I am always being nosy to see what surrounding hosts are mentioning in their listsings. My Response time is always less than 1 hour, and Calendar is updated daily -  Maybe I just need to be more patient for now 🙂

@Krystyna1  Thanks for providing your URL.  Your place is lovely!  Have you checked your viewing stats?  You can see if fewer people are viewing or if fewer people are booking.  I would suggest you provide some pictures about your area and some interesting spots nearby.  Narrow the search results to those listings that are close to your listing and compare amenities, price, and other filters.  Still, having 6 bookings in your first month is very very good.  You are in a highly competitive market.

Thanks @Linda108 for the kind words. I think maybe I need to be patient and see how things are in a few weeks time. I will continue to improve my lsiting and compete on pricing!

You are in SF as am I. Competition is extreme BUT I see you are registered. Good for you. The current case in the court may make our situation much more favorable if airbnb is forced to delete listings of unregistered hosts. Watch the news.

@James1 Yes, we registered right before the new terms were announced, so very happy that we are compliant! Thanks for your comments.

Hi

I agree with you, page 17 is shocking for someone who has been doing well.

The same thing has happened to me. However, it's even worse! My listing doesn't show up at all.

Friends alerted me to this when they were attempting to show a would-be client my page.

I have had great reviews & almost too many bookings to cope with & now suddenly they have stopped.

What makes it worse is that there is no avenue in which to communicate this to the Airbnb office.

Has anyone in the community ever successfully contacted them?

@Jules11....Hi Jules, your place looks very inviting and you obviously put a lot of effort into your hosting.

This off the top of my head...the only reason I could think of as to why your listing would be 'suspended', if it is not showing up ....have you declined a number of booking requests??

Airbnb will penalise you if you consistently decline bookings.

BUT...on looking at your listing though, it does say that your place was booked 1 day ago so it appears that you are still visible, and doing an incognito search it came up as in the first 4 listings for your area.

I don't quite know what you are expecting Jules but, it all looks pretty good to me....but should you wish to contact Airbnb in Australia they have an office in Sydney and the phone number for that office is 02 8520 3333

Would strongly advise you to keep this number prominent should you have future problems. You will find they are quick to respond and the staff are effective and pleasant to deal with!!

Cheers.....Rob
