That’s it, I quit !

Hello,

That’s it... I quit, and I can’t wait to get out of here.

I won’t bother you with the details of my story, because when I read other disappointed hosts, it seams our stories are all the same : years (3 in my case) of hosting in my home with great pleasure, great reviews, then 1 bad guest, 1 traumatic incident, 0 help from Airbnb customer service, to the contrary ! They let me down hard, impacting my family on the way.

I lived a traumatic moment and then worse, over and over again, with the inhuman treatment of Airbnb’s so called “customer service”.

It’s a shame to see how Airbnb lost its purpose and discarded, disgusted committed hosts who still believe in the primary Airbnb concept : to welcome warmly someone into your home, to share time with them, to show them what you love about your location and the surroundings.

I can’t work with people (are they even people ? Sometimes I felt like I was texting to a robot...) who take large commissions from my hard work and commitment for years and then abandon me when I need them. That’s not the way I work.

Airbnb, *personal information hidden* hear me : I quit. I will find a smaller platform, maybe have less guests, but when I have a problem, I want to talk to honest and respectful human beings.

@Samra1  Some people that review are harsh, don't let it upset you too much, there will be many others who will relate to your down to earth style of hosting. I would be upset also dealing with so much harshness. Do have a rest and bounce back to doing what you initially set out. The stories here are depressing and eye opening sometimes. However when you see the airbnb instagrams, its much more positive. Take time out.

Thank you Syl,

but to be clear, I am not disappointed because of some bad review, not even for having met dishonest guests : **bleep** happens. But that’s exactly my point : as we know it happens, I want a customer service that respects me.

I am not quitting because of the guests : I am quitting because of Airbnb’s unethical business practices.

Take care !

@Syl11

What a wonderful supportive response Syl you gave to @Samra1...you are to be congratulated. This is what the community should be, one user helping another. There is enough negativity in the world, lets all try be positive and make this platform as good as we can!

Samra, you are a great host, look at you 70+ reviews and your guests love you. Do you think for a second we are going to judge you on the strength of one 'left field' review?

There are some things about the platform that are going to make our blood boil at times Samra, they will not seem fair...I have my fair share of dislikes about the way some aspects of the company are run.

It is not run by users with experience any more, it is run by computer programmers and most of these IT people come from a background of internal isolation (computer gaming) where they find interaction with others difficult, and are more interested in the achievement of what they have designed, rather than the lack of empathy and problems that design may generate.

Samra, Airbnb has problems but, they are better than the opposition! Hey, turn the other cheek to these hick-ups....we don't want to lose great experienced host like you.

Cheers........Rob

@Robin4  Thanks Robin because you always entertain us and write so well and have helped so many people to understand the platform, and yes we are lucky to have great hosts like you guys n gals!

Now if anyone gets too upset, reading so many bad stories, head to airbnb Instagram help tick those divine pictures. There are almost 3 million plus loves! its much more positive then here! LOL

Syl....mate, where are you when we need you!

As you well know, we have a bunch of self destructing morons running this country at the moment. We have managed to replace 7 Prime Ministers in a decade and the public only got to vote on 3 of them!

There have been more political in-fights  here in the last decade than I have had 'hot feeds' !

You better get your a*se off that computer seat and sort this lot out for us Syl

Cheers.....Rob

@Robin4  You know most businesses are destroyed by them........seriously, its so punishing having a bunch of morons throwing their unreasonable policies around affecting simple ordinary people trying to pay their morgages, their living expenses, when people voted someone to stand up on their values, who expected so much animosity and ignorance.

In Sydney City, their business rentals are extremely high and with construction affecting their businesses day in day out for years, who wouldn't go bankrupt.....then I can assume many of these people do short term rentals trying to make ends meet yet they spoil that as well. Airbnb needs to stop agreeing with dumb policies that will affect people in general.

Back to the point of this post, as for hosts needing support, when things happen out of the blue, there are solutions to any crisis and its important they hire supervisers intelligent enough to deal with high risk issues other then having to wait for a safety team few days later. This support should be by the minute/hour.

Thank you for the lovely message, Rob 🙂

I am a grown up woman and perfectly understand the organisation and pressures within a company such as Airbnb. Still, I don’t have to accept it...

people are people, that’s life, but I will not accept to be mistreated by people I pay.

Understand your feelings entirely, the problem I have found is there is not a Zapp button to take your property off the site completely

Merci Robert 🙂

Yes there is : at least I can “unpublish” my listing, make it invisible until the last bookings are done. I did it.

Then I will see what I can do for a total cancellation : if necessary, I will send a formal letter to their French HQ - legally they cannot prevent me from cancelling my personal account (as host and guest).

Robert, dans la version française, c’est l’action « masquer » que l’on trouve dans : annonce => paramètres de réservation => statut (tout en bas).
