I do charge a $7 cleaning fee, but my latest guest is requiring extra cleaning. He was here for a body building competition and my white bathroom is a spray tan disaster. I feel like I should get extra compensation for this cleanup, but it also seems not worth going through the resolution center. Anyone have a situation like this and advice?
In my opinion you take the rough with the smooth - some people leave the place immaculate, others not so and it's not as if there is any damage or long issues.
My bug bear (sorry...) is women with long hair...so hard to get things clean, they reappear everywhere!
I don't agree. Spray tan diaster seems above and beyond what should be expected. You could contact him and ask him to pay for extra cleaning. Otherwise, you would need to go through resolution center. Do you require a deposit?
No. I've been hosting for four years and this is the worst cleaning I've had to do. I've had good guests. But it's definitely an excessive job having to clean every shelf, wall, etc.
Be interested to hear what Airbnb would say. I don't think their insurance would cover this as there is no lasting damage but you would be out of pocket. I'd definitely try and get the guest to pay for the cleanup, though how you get them to do that, I've not idea. You may have to at least send them a private message and leave them a 2 star review for leaving the place dirty.
I have never had anyone actually getting their spray tan in my place, that sounds like a lot of extra cleaning, but I have had someone loose half their fake tan on my white (and very expensive) sheets. Thought I had to throw them out, but after long soaks and several washes they came good. I think you have to wear it, some guests leave the place better or worse.
I'm with @Gerry-And-Rashid0, agree re long hair, how much hair IS there in the world? A lot.... Talcum powder is another, all-covering dust which turns to white mud as it mixes with water. And then, let's walk it around on the rugs.
I have also had bigger clean up jobs with rosepetals everywhere (they stain), dripped candlewax (stop walking around w candles) and thing being moved around to the point that I don't know where I am anymore. If I were you, I would file it in my collection of stories to think of in years to come. ''Remember the spray tan?''
The pain of the cleaning will fade faster than the tan.
