A GUEST OPENED THE DOORS AND CRAZY WOMAN CAME IN

My daughter was host and many times Superhost since 2013. She has 10 listings, some shared, some not shared, all in the same building/area.

The story I am going to tell you is factual. We have documentations and legal statements.

This horror story started on a quiet Sunday morning in 2019. A crazy random woman (probably drunk too) started to kick the front door early in the morning. We don't know who was the woman, we had never met her. We don't live in the same building, so we didn't know this was happening. A curious guest opened the front door (from the remote doorbell button) and opened the door of the apartment on the second floor as well. When two doors were both wide open, the crazy woman came in effortlessly and went to a man in one of the rooms in this shared apartment. The sleepy man was completely unaware of what is going on, receiving a hit on the nose and fell on the floor with blood on his face. Later doctor said he broke his nose bone. Some furniture were dented and blood on the walls from the nosebleed. It's a bloody mess in the room.

Later we learnt that the man had brief encounters with this crazy woman days before, probably had an affair. The crazy woman told the police that she was the guy's girlfriend, but the guy denied. The crazy woman was detained and the guy taken to hospital. You know, relationships are never that clear. That's not exactly the problem here.

So, this curious guest who opened the door was freaking out. She knew it would be part of her fault for letting strangers in. She immediately filed an incidence against my daughter who has the host at the time. My daughter filed a compensation against Airbnb for Host Protection, because according to the house rule, the guest should NOT open doors to strangers (or to anyone). Our doors were security doors, which could not have been broken by this woman. We had damages because of this Guest's actions (opening two doors to stranger). We wrote clearly before booking under house rules: 'don't let unbooked person into the apartment', because sometimes guests try to make parties or smuggle other people.

However, unexpectedly Airbnb removed my daughter's profile, blocked her phone, so she can not file a compensation anymore. She also did not get paid out for all the upcoming reservations, even who she had checked in the day before and on that day of deletion.

I decided to take over her business and listed new listings under my name. I have been managing it since 2019, and our guests were happy with a 'mother' who takes care of them during their stay. However, Airbnb wrote to me two weeks ago saying 'your listing is associated with xx (my daughter), so your listings are taken down'. Just by email, no answers further so far.

What? We didn't know the crazy woman who caused the trouble. We had police reports. We had damages too! It's a crime to use violence but we were not a part of it, and we have taken our actions to repair, clean up and compensate (all full refunds to other guests in the apartment at the time for the inconvenience). If not Airbnb guest open the door to stranger, we would not have had all that trouble.

Now my listings are inactive. I decided Airbnb is not worth the trouble (PS Booking dot com is better in my opinion). I am the mother of my daughter, but is this 'mother should pay daughter's debts' a thing on Airbnb? If Airbnb has problem with my daughter, why do they take it on me after a whole year has passed? I suspect they are worried because we have started a legal process to get compensated against the crazy woman and against Airbnb.

Is it normal to have this kind of actions from Airbnb? Thanks for your answers in advance.

Hello @丽萍0

I am sorry your daughter encountered these issues with her listing, but it is made very clear that is against Airbnb's T&C to do what you and your daughter have done i.e.  set your listings up under a new profile because of issues to do with the original profile..

It would have been better for your daughter to have worked with Airbnb to resolve the issue that led to her account being suspended rather than try and get around Airbnb's T&C by transferring the listings into your name. (I presume they suspended her account because one of your guests let a stranger into a listing which resulted in another guest being assaulted).

If you have a listing that is shared but the host doesn't stay in the listing - there will be trouble.
