About Extra Guest Fee

Hi all,

Just now when I was looking at the base price breakdown of an apartment, I saw that the extra guest fee is included in the base price.

I'm not sure how this extra guest fee works and would be grateful if somebody could clarify it for me......

My imagination is that, if I let someone else sneak into the apartment, such that more guests are living in the apartment than what's specified in the booking, then I'll have to pay the extra guest fee.

I'm not sure if I got it correct. If it is indeed correct then does it mean I don't have to pay for the extra guest fee in case nobody sneaks in?

Thank you very much!

A host will specify a night rental fee and the number of guests allowed for that fee  e.g. 4

They will also specify a maximum number for the apartment  e.g. 6

The extra guest fee is the fee for guests 5 and 6 , should they be required

So, if you are 5 guests you pay the nightly fee and one extra guest fee

no..if you sneek in unpaid guests the reservation can be cancelled and you can be thrown out by the host...as it is a violation of the rental terms,  ..although ..if you are lucky..you might be allowed to pay the extra fee..depends... if you allow in more than the maximum allowed....then you would be thrown out

(I am not saying you would do that..I just mean should the situation occur)

It's not about seeing the total price directly. It's about the fact that there's an. extra guest charge. You can see my above responses for details.

I'm late to the party on this conversation but was trying to search google for an answer and came across this thread. Booking a house for 12 people. I put in the search for 12 people. Under house rules, it tells me after 6 people it will be an extra 50 a person. Why have a house for 12 people and then charge a guest fee for the other 6?

@Valerie885  Because 12 is the maximum number of people the house can accommodate, but there may be guests with only a group of 6 or 8 who want to rent it. If the host charges the same amount for 6 as they do for 12, that would make it too expensive for a group of 6, or not cost effective for the host if 12 came.  Many hosts prefer smaller groups, because it results in less mess and expenses, even if they can accommodate up to 12.

12 people obviously cost the host more than 6 in terms of laundry, utility usage, toilet paper, soap and shampoo and whatever else the host supplies, as well as in general wear and tear. The extra guest fee usually is just an amount to cover these extra expenses. Washing bedding and towels for 12 is a lot more work than washing bedding for 6. A $50 extra guest fee per person would indicate to me that the host prefers smaller groups unless they get adequately compensated for it. Some extra guest fees are more on the order of $15-$20 per person.
