Act of sabotage from a guest

Act of sabotage from a guest

Guests who just checked out have committed a clear act of sabotage.

This is what happened. Due to a mix-up at check-in the guests were given another apartment than the one they had rented. Within one hour the mistake was corrected and they were shown to the right apartment.

Since then they haven’t stopped complaining. That the place was dirty, that it smelled...

We have gone various times and the place was clean and there was no smell. The guests said this was because they had cleaned it in the meantime (within 1,5 hours??)

To apologize for our mistake we offered a refund on the rent of € 200 which the guests accepted. Things went smoothly from then on, but the guests pointed out in two messages that they were happy now, but that there still was this smell and that they were advising us to get that investigated by an expert as it might be inside the wall/mortar. We replied thank you and that we certainly would do that.

Now, when we cleaned the apartment right after check-out we noticed a smell too. We looked all over and finally found a glass of rotten milk in a small hole behind the fridge. Only the guests could have put it there as we certainly would have noticed the smell had it been there before them.

Any advice on how to behave is greatly appreciated.

@Alessandro1587 do nothing except leave an honest review. Just be absolutely sure it wasn't the guest before.

Another airbnb host rented my cottage, didnt spend the night, demanded their money back and gave a dishonest 1 star review.

Is that even legal?

Trying to fight cpmpetition like that?

First, You can respond back to their review on your listing and share your side of what happened so future guests know this review is not valid, be kind and professional in your response. Second, call airbnb support and explain why this review needs to be removed immediately!

good luck, sorry to hear of this situation for you.
