I am new to hosting and I was keen to explore the details of AirCover. The cover seems great but what I discovered was that it does not cover the host if an item is missing and a possible theft by the guest. I thought I would share in case others were not aware and this helps to make decisions on your own cover/insurance.
Specifically, in the AirCover Terms (https://www.airbnb.com.au/help/article/2869) state that
“Covered Losses” means and is limited to:
(i) Direct physical loss or physical damage to a Host’s Covered Property caused by the Responsible Guest or an Invitee of the Responsible Guest during an Airbnb stay...
but then says....
Covered Losses do not include any losses or damage described under Excluded Losses below.
They are then described as...
III. Limitations and Exclusions
The Host Damage Protection pays Covered Losses only and does not pay for any of the following (“Excluded Losses”):
...4. any losses, damages, cost or expense of whatsoever nature, directly or indirectly, caused by, relating to or resulting from any of the following:
.........7. mysterious disappearance, loss, or shortage disclosed on taking inventory, or any unexplained loss of inventory
This would suggest when the host/cleaner takes an inventory on the guest departure and something is noticed to be missing (assumed stolen) that cost of these items is NOT covered as it is considered "Excluded Losses".
Having used AirBnB as a traveler a number of times, I would hope that my guests treat my home with the same respect we have provided our lovely hosts. However, as piece of mind, I am glad I am aware of this now and will seek to understand if it is necessary for me to explore other forms of insurance. Hope that helps.
