Booking for someone else

I recently had a guest book for 1 night,  but later learned that the Booker was not the person who stayed.  The unit was then needing a special cleaning, and no recourse on the person who booked.  Any suggestions to help avoid having others book for someone else?

Hi @Jovie3  - sorry about this situation. Here's some thoughts:

- third party reservations are not allowed via AIRBNB, it's against policy (for a guest and for a host). Had you known and still gone forward with the reservation, your recourse would be different, I believe.

- the person who booked is the responsible party, regardless. For example, our vacation rental home sleeps up to 10 and the booker is responsible for any damage caused by anyone of these '10'. The booker is responsible and now it will be a finger pointing contest, which happens. Even if it wasn't a third party type scenario, this happens.

- to help avoid for future reservations you can do these types of things: say in your house rules that "third party reservations not allowed", add in that you require a face identifying photo of the main booker on their AIRBNB profile, confirm when reserved that the booker made this reservation for themselves.

just some thoughts and hopefully something helps. Good luck
