Hello, we are relatively new to hosting. We are busier at different times of year. Question is since we do not live where are property is, once a guest leaves cleaning crew comes in same day or next day. If I don’t have another guest coming in for two weeks do I clean again? Seems like dust would accumulate in that time. I do like crew going in right when they leave that way if something is damage or needs immediate cleaning attention it is seen right away. What to do?
Hi Teresa. You're welcome to this new adventure!
You can continue this way; having the cleaners clean the unit immediately after check out, and whenever you have another guest coming in two weeks after (which I'm sure you won't be having this often), you can have the unit cleaned once more before the new guest check-in.
Another way you can go about this is by having the cleaners clean the unit 4-5 days after check-out. With this 4-5 day interval after a guest checks out, you will still be able to file a complaint to Airbnb, give reviews, or request extra charges due to any damages caused by the guests. And there will be less accumulation of dust cleaning the unit by this time before a new guest checks in.
I hope this helps.
Just seems dust accumulates quickly. But might be an idea. Thanks!
@Teresa1801 I would agree you should have the unit cleaned at least within 1 day, since some guests leave trash and other items that can cause problems if left unattended, and as you said, there may be damage.
Maybe you could arrange something with your cleaners for a steep discount 'top off' type of very lite cleaning if it has been more than 1 week, where it would just be wiping down surfaces and dusting.
I do this, it usually just takes her 15 -20 minutes to do a quick run through and touch up, I pay her $20 for the touch up but I don't know what the going rate would be where you are.
That might work. Thanks!
@Mark116 and @Michelle1851 's suggestion is good.
However, if you are a remote host, I think it's probably a good idea anyway to have some sort of co-host anyway (perhaps there is a neighbour or someone else you know nearby who could help with this) to keep an eye on things.
That way, they could go to the property after check out to 'inspect' and deal with urgent issues if there are any, then your cleaners only need to go in again shortly before the next guest.
I always check the room straight away and start washing the linens, but I leave it as late as possible to clean the room because, as you say, dust settles. This is easy for me though because I'm an on-site host. If I wasn't, I would certainly want someone who can check up on the property after guests leave, but also just to be on hand in case of problems during the stay.
@Teresa1801 I would always do the cleaning as soon as possible because rubbish and dirty linen really needs to be dealt with and cannot be left ./ Most hosts do both and are always aware of anything out of place or maintenance issues that arise. Because they tend also not to reset some linens, as in bathroom /kitchen linens until a guest or guests are arriving . Number of towels etcetera are dependant on the number of guests . the lawns may need cutting ,or windows washing or something electrical may stop working , so unless your cleaners are also maintenance then such a time frame would cause trouble I think H
