Compensation for broken glasses or destroyed towels and so on

When my latest guests left the house, I noticed that there are three wine-glasses missing. How do you handle this? Just ignore it, or ask the guests to pay for them?

Several guests have also used the towels in a way that it is not possible to get them clean.
And some guests have used the oilcloth outdoor, so it is not possible to get it clean.

How do you handle things like this?

I’m always amazed at how often glasses get broken! Almost every weekend our guests manage to break one, yet I live in the house for six months of the year and hardly ever break anything.

Why do you think that is? The only conclusion I can reach is that people are simply less careful, which I find a little disheartening.

@Rob13777  I find this too.  I can't remember that last time I broke a glass in my 60 years and I do use glass not plastic.

Too bad Corelle didn't make glassware or maybe they do 😁 I have all Corelle dishware in my spaces and that has worked out well so far.

@Karen114 @Rob13777, perhaps they just don't make glass the way they used to... I've got some older glasses that have lasted me years, but some newer brands have been the first to break.

Is Corelle a brand/type of crockery?

@Rebecca Corelle is a brand of dishware  that won’t break or chip. I suppose if you really tried you could get them to break but for the most part they are pretty bullet proof 😊

I haven't heard of this before. I've gone through quite a few sets with my kids... noted for the Christmas list! I love learning all these new things from the hosts here 🤗 @Karen114

I wonder if using glassware from a restaurant wholesaler would be worth looking into? Their glasses are usually strong and durable!
