We checked into an Airbnb last night and the odor is so horrible from the instant you open the door that you feel sick.  It was so bad, we couldn’t sleep all night.  It smells like a wet dog mixed with urine.  We also have no heat and the temperature fell to 51 degrees last night.  To say it was a miserable night is an understatement.  After reading the listing again, it states no heat?!?!  Is this even allowed when night temps are usually in the 50’s.  Considering leaving early but don’t want to lose the over $250 a night we paid to stay here.  Any help would be appreciated.

@Jacqueline1270  That’s terrible; I’m sorry this is happening to you. How are the reviews for this place? Can you give us the link? Surely such a terrible odor would have been noticed by others.

Regardless of whether or not the host disclosed the heat situation, I believe there are certain minimal standards imposed by the city or other jurisdiction - something like “Accommodation must be kept at a minimum of 68 degrees”. Also check with Airbnb to see if that part of the listing description has been changed recently. In either case, you may be entitled to some sort of refund.

@Jacqueline1270 same thing happened to us once. The smell was incomprehensible ,even in the bedrooms and the sheets were apalling. Very picturesque and appealing spot and house but ,while his wife was away ,the owner was renting the place as a hunting lodge and cleaning seemed not to be on his list.I found telling someone that their place stinks and is filthy very embarrassing ,but my son rang the owner and she came over, was very apologetic and refunded us. and we moved on to a nearby farm stay.... What did the host say when you contacted them about the smell and cold? @Jacqueline1270

If not responsive  what did Airbnb say?

Do any recent reviews mention this awful smell?

Hi @Jacqueline1270 ,

Since it has been a while, were you able to get through this stay or have it cancelled?
