As a guest I feel I should not have to pay a very expensive host fee? Like prices fees and taxes aren't high enough?

If you could provide a screen shot of the "fee" then we could possibly figure out what this high fee is for? The Airbnb Guest Service Fee goes to Airbnb - the Host doesn't see any of that. Airbnb charges this fee for using the platform and Hosts don't get any of that money.

If you are a traveling contractor and do longer term stays, I suggest trying Furnished Finder instead. They do not charge platform fees like Airbnb and therefore the cost of your stay will be much less expensive. You can also use Zillow Furnished Rentals. That said, most Hosts offer at least a 20% discount for monthly stays (stays over 28 days) on Airbnb. If you are booking a 28+day stay, and don't see a discount, then I would move on to another listing.
