I’m finding it hard to search with the new app release. I loved being able to search for lakefront properties. Am I missing that functionality somewhere? Or does it no longer exist?
Hi @Leah759
The feature was known as Categories - as far as I know it no longer exists. There seemed to be some technical difficulties with properties being misclassified by the automatic location function, which may have contributed to the decision.
Hi @Leah759 👋,
You're not alone—many hosts and guests have noticed that some of the Category filters, like Lakefront, have been either removed or made harder to find with the latest app update.
It seems Airbnb may be reworking or testing the feature, especially since there were some issues with automatic classification (like properties being incorrectly labeled). Hopefully, they bring it back soon or improve how we can filter for special features like yours.
In the meantime, you might try using keywords like “lakefront” in the search bar or even in your listing title and description to help guests find your space more easily.
Let’s hope it returns soon—those filters really did help with visibility and guest targeting!
Hi @Leah759
Airbnb will now suggest homes, experiences and services nearby, or in a destination that you’re booked to go to next. The search filter will serve more relevant suggestions that are personalized and different for each guest. Guests will still be able to use filters to search for homes with specific amenities including pools, a waterfront location or Luxe homes.
Best,
Alex
Ah thank you @Joan2709 , I see the options for beachfront and waterfront. So it looks like it's no longer the categories, just two options.
I remember you tried to assist some hosts who were struggling because the map was incorrectly measuring their distance from the beach, and it looked like it seemed to be measuring to a specific point on the main beach area (so some hosts would be right on the water and it would say "10 minutes to the beach"). Maybe the filter is no longer auto-detecting it (to solve that issue). It could perhaps be picking it up from what the host selects under "location features":
And is your screenshot from before the update? So these 2 were part of the filters before?
Can't be sure 🤔
I don't remember the Location Heading in Filters before? Could be wrong. They have moved some things around though. Filters will appear differently depending on the location searched and the particular guest's past searches. Beachfront sometimes appears under "Popular" and sometimes under "Location". I think waterfront is new.
I think you are right 😊...
Some Hosts still reporting proximity callouts are not correct, so not sure what they can do about that except try contact to Airbnb CS. Don't think Elevate has anything to do with that anymore (too busy with Experiences and Services I would think).
