Guest Abuse in Electricity and 0 Airbnb Support

I have had a guest who has abused the electricity to the full! He has spent more than $400 dollars in 30 days and I am still waiting for the other 15 that he was still staying.

My rules and my "good to know" says everywhere the consumption that is covered and that electricity is extremely expensive in Panama, he was told in person, he was sent a message, he was warned before leaving about the charge and when ithe payment was requested, well they don't pay.

airbnb? Simply states that the aircover does not cover additional cleaning or electrical expenses, or guests and basically everything that they themselves allow you to set as rules for you to offer your home to strangers and that they profit from.

This really makes you question why use airbnb if they are not giving you any guarantee, which is how I saw it when I used it and recommended it, well, they have my guest's card and they will charge him what he owes. Well, no, the guests don't care and that's it?

Anyone else with problems of high electricity consumption and loosing money?

  1. Open a reservation, scroll down until you se Send or request money.  Then click on it.        Debra300_1-1654215943013.png

  2. Select Request money                                        Debra300_0-1654215892926.png

  3. Select Extra Services, enter your desired amount, write a little note (I included a greeting, but scrolled to hide the gets name), and click Next.             Debra300_3-1654216829076.png
  4. A review page will appear.  Click Confirm and request if everything appears correct.

  5. Via Airbnb's message system, send the get another note to inform them of the payment request, and tell them to go to www.airbnb.com/resolutions if they do not receive a notification or cannot find the link to pay.  This is important, because the mobile app doesn't have a link to the Resolution Center, and there have been numerous posts about folks not being able to locate where to pay.

@Kristina-Yvette0,

Electricity usage has been discussed quite a bit in this forum.  In a recent thread, I wrote about some steps we've taken to guide the guests to energy conservation:  https://community.withairbnb.com/t5/Hosting/How-are-you-planning-to-keep-energy-costs-low-after-the-....

Also, in the Things to Know section of our guesthouse listings, we have this written:

A refundable deposit up to $300 USD will be collected via Airbnb payments when the free cancellation period ends. Guests will be refunded any unused amounts at checkout.

The nightly rate includes 22 kwh for electricity usage, and guests will pay for excess usage. Each studio has its own meters, and we charge the local rate of $0.45 USD per kwh.

I charge guests $10 USD per night for the refundable deposit, and thus far we've not had to hold any funds for excess electricity usage.

@Debra300 @Debra exactly how do you charge the refundable deposit? It appears as if the deposit option has disappeared from the host options since aircover was implemented

All this info is amazing BTW!
