Help! Custom Promotions Issue - Changes Our Calendar Price BEFORE discount applied.
Hi, all! My wife and I are new hosts, and are excited. We've had our first bookings.
So, it seems the Airbnb app automatically lowers my nightly rate BEFORE I attempt to apply a custom promotion. It first reduces the rate THEN applies the promotion — resulting in a much lower guest price than intended.
Here’s a clear example from May 20, 21, 22:
My originally set prices: $240 / $240 / $340
Before applying a 20% discount, the Airbnb app changes my nightly rates to $199 / $199 / $277.
Then, the when adding the 20% discount it lowers the prices again based on the "new" lower rates — effectively a discount on top of a discount, which I don't intend.
Can anyone provide a solution or explanation? I did reach out to support, they initially said it was a bug, then rejected and closed our support ticket. I've reopened a new ticket, but perhaps someone may have encountered this issue and knows what's going on.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Cris

I do not see that you selected to use the Airbnb 20% discount for first 3 bookings on your listing? This is something you select (or not) when creating the listing. A new listing will show a callout when a guest attempts to book if the 20% new listing promotion applies. It looks like this:
Your Listing Callout looks like this and usually means the Host has manually lowered the price:
It does appear you have selected some other discounts though like Early Bird/Last Minute or other Discounts, have manually lowered your prices, or are using Professional Tools and a Rule Set to lower your prices. New listings typically can't add a Custom Promotion for at least 30-60 days as Custom Promotions need to look back 60days to get an average price.
Calendar Discounts
On your Calendar, go to Pricing Tab top right
View More Discounts to see if you have anything set there

Hi Joan,
Thanks so much for the response.
We did actually create / use the 3 custom promotions.
I'm now referencing creating new custom promotions.
Real quick, I do have access to custom promotions, for reference. And I understand I had other discounts applied. I deleted the custom promo because I wasn't going to offer our airbnb for that rate.
My issue remains, but I appreciate your trying to bring clarity. Very kind of you.
Thank you,
Cris

Sorry I wasn't able to help more, but since I can't see how you have your calendar set and what your discounts and pricing settings are it's difficult to know how to help.
You may need to contact Airbnb Customer Service, since they can see all your settings and calendar.

Hi @Alex,
I didn't see Joan's response. Thanks for calling attention to it!
I'm not confident she understood my question fully (which may be my fault).

Not sure if you have received an answer yet and I have had the same question. I did read an article that says Airbnb's algorithm looks back at the average daily rate for the past 60 days and configures the discount based on that. I do not think this should be set this way .... if rates have been raised for a reason, then I would not want my discount to be applied to a past lower rate. I'm sure you feel the same way. Hope this helps.
