I booked a property, it was confirmed, credit card charged, all seemed ok. I get a text about 2 hours later from the host asking ME to cancel my reservation. I declined to respond to the text since I didn't want to cancel. The next day, I received notification that my reservation was indeed cancelled. The good news is I was fully refunded, but HOW can this cancellation be allowed??

@Beth5420 . I am not sure why the host wanted to cancel but I would make a profile for yourself. At the moment there are absolutely zero details on your profile and only an email verified.
To help hosts decide whether they want to host you, most would require a little more information and possibly identity verified too. Also some hosts require a photograph.
So I would spend a little time working on your profile to let hosts know who will be visiting their home.
Good Luck

I appreciate the response. Overall, I think I'm just venting my frustration at the situation and hoping AirBnB actually will take the complaint seriously.
Hello @Beth5420 , your situation or complaint has already been addressed, since you've already been refunded and the host has been fined for cancelling.
This is something no host would ever want to do, since it negatively affects on their listing overall, so he probably had some big reason for not being able to host you, also, there's been cases were people have had their reservations cancelled a day prior to their check in, or even the same day and that's even worst.
Hello @Beth5420
Sometimes, the unexpected or unplanned can happen but if it's any consolation, the host will be fined for cancelling and the dates on his/her calendar blocked as a double penalty. Airbnb have recently made adjustments to their cancellation policy regarding hosts cancelling on guests and as you can see, the sentence is tough for hosts.
Hopefully, you have time to search for another listing before your planned break and I am glad that you were fully refunded so quickly.
All the best
Joëlle
@Beth5420 if the rules are being followed by Airbnb then the host will be fined and the dates blocked in their diary as punishment for this poor behaviour
Like @Ruth413 also noticed (below), why so little information about yourself? It may be making a mystery where there shouldn't be one.
