Hot water

Hot water

I contacted the host of my rented cottage as there was no hot water from kitchen or bathroom taps when I got here .He informed me the hot water only is on when the oil heating  is being used , but now ( being summer ) it was off . The only hot water he said was from the electric shower in the bathroom . Other than that , he said to boil a kettle for hot water . This is not made clear in the listing  or I would have avoided the place , and I think it is very odd as hot water is a basic amenity , and this is not exactly in some remote off grid kind of place  . I think it is ridiculous and want to leave the place , even though wasting my short trip dealing with a situation  like this is annoying .

Hello @Ciaran49 ,

Let me share a thought with you. When a stay is very budget-friendly, these kinds of issues can sometimes happen because when guests save money, the host is often cutting costs too. Sometimes guests book very inexpensive places but expect a Ritz-Carlton experience. I'm not saying that's the case here, but just offering a perspective from the host’s point of view.

That said, if this isn’t a budget stay, then the host should absolutely provide hot water in both the kitchen and bathroom taps. From your description, it doesn’t sound like a fault. It sounds intentional.

I recommend contacting Airbnb customer service right away. They are usually very responsive in situations like this. Let them know that the place isn't livable for you and ask them to help find an alternative accommodation, even a hotel if needed.

According to Airbnb's amenities list, there is no such thing as partial hot water. Hot water means hot water. They may also suggest a partial refund, which could be a reasonable option.

In short, reach out to Airbnb now.

What a strange assumption on your part that guests staying in budget accommodation shouldn't expect hot water in the UK @Guy991

I live in the UK and I don't know anyone that doesn't have hot running water in their rental properties - budget or otherwise unless it's marketed as an off grid property.

@Ciaran49 does the host say anywhere that there is not hot water in their rental properties summer ? Are they a new host? Do previous reviews mention this?

Personally it wouldn't bother me @Ciaran49 apart from washing my hands but if it bothers you contact Airbnb and they'll probably offer you a discount.
