Military Discounts

I have a guest asking for a military discount. How do I determine they are military and what would be a normal discount?

I wouldn't offer discounts to military, emergency services or any other group @Kathie89

Offering a discount is up to you, but as you pointed out, it's difficult to determine if it is legit. Many Hosts don't offer these for that reason.

Also, I have found most guests looking for a "discount" generally turn out to be problematic. Many Hosts have a polite Quick Reply created that says while they appreciate their service the listing is already competively priced for the amenities, location and season and unfortunately you won't be able to discount further. If you have a weekly or monthly discount that applies you could mention that. Then conclude with you hope they able to find other accomodations that would better suit their budget.

@Kathie89  We are retired military and we do not expect any AirBnB host to offer a discount to us.  I have had guests request a military discount, but they are reticent to provide a copy of their military ID, which other than sending a copy of their current orders, showing where they are stationed, would be the only way to tell if a person is military, active or retired.   Hotels and companies that do offer a military discount offer it at 10% of the transaction, less fees and taxes.
