Misleading Cancelation Insurance

When you pay extra for cancelation coverage, one would assume that if something arises that you would be able to cancel and get refunded. Apparently that isn't the case. I had scheduled vacation and an emegency arose at work and I had to cancel to cover for a colleague. I am only being refunded 50% by airbnb and have had to file a claim with the so called insurance company. As it turns out, this cancelation insurance only covers specific contingencies and requires documentation. After filing a claim I am told that I'm not covered in this situation. This is very misleading and shady in my opnion.

I've used this site in the past but going forward I will no longer use airbnb for anything and will be spreading the word that it's a sketchy site to deal with and don't use this site unless you are ok with potentially losing a lot of money if you need to cancel.

@Perry112 Did you read the policy before you bought it? I suspect no insurance policy, other than those that are 'cancel for any reason' would cover the circumstance you describe. If the need for you to work was so urgent perhaps your company should pay.

Consider, in all likelihood, that the host ended up getting paid only 50% because you had to cover for the colleague.

Yeah, I didn't think of that. They only got $244 for doing nothing and are still able to book those dates over a week in advance. I really feel for them.
