Ok Airbnb sided in the favor of a guest because they felt uncomfortable with my first generation nest smoke detector.
The Guest stated it has a microphone in it and that it can be used to spy on them.
To me this is a gray area and where do we drow a line? Do we now need to state we have smart TV's that have microphones in them That can be used to spy on them?
Would love to know if anyone else has run into this situation?
What's the purpose of a microphone in a smoke detector ? (Yes, i know, you can clap your hands to stop the alarm) Maybe we should draw a line already in general on "how to protect ourself from ridiculous technology in our homes" ?
The EPA states that 90% of the people with a smoke alarm never check to see if It is actually working. So the nest smoke alarm is designed to automatically check to see if it is working properly. Therefore they use the microphone for that reason.
I would say a huge percentage of everyone that comes to the home uses technology. I don't think drawing a line in the use of technology is very helpful in a technological world. Even Airbnb is a huge technology company by which we all benefit from. 😉
@Chad149 "Airbnb sided in the favor of a guest". Curious how Airbnb sided with the guest, and how this booking went. Did the guest stay at all? Complain at check in, then leave, or after the stay was over? Were they refunded all/part?
