Noticing cancelations .

I was noticing a lot of cancelations made by owners. What is happening here?  This had to be a very unfair practice. It is upsetting enough when a guest cancels but for a host to cancel on a guest could be very heartbreaking for the traveler. Wonder if anyone else is seeing this, is there a reason? Personally I feel unless your rental has had a catastrophic event there should be a hefty "fine" paid to the renter for destroying someone's vacation. This practice can not be good for the reputation of the Air B n B name. I follow a local cottage rental face book page and I see it at least once a week ,someone needing a new rental because they have been let down.

Host cancellation does carry severe penalties @Robert9726 , and I fully agree with you that it should (barring a catastrophe).

1) The host is fined

2) The dates remain blocked on the calendar and cannot be opened

3) If anything over 1% of total bookings get canceled, the host doesn't qualify for Superhost

4) The listing has cancellations recorded against it, which hurts its search rank.

If you say you see many hosts canceling, I assume they won't be around for long.
