Original guest not there

I had a situation where I went halves on an Airbnb with friends of ours who were the original guest. Upon arrival at the airport we found out that the original guest passport was no good so therefore they could not continue on the trip. My husband and I went ahead and went on the trip but when we arrived to get our Airbnb even though we were registered guest the owner would not rent to us even though we said we would transfer ,we would do whatever would need to be done. He said that the insurance would not cover up since the original guest was not there even though we were on the guest list and the original guest was willing to fill out the contract and take responsibility for anything that happened. My question is, is it true that Airbnb insurance will not cover you if the original guest is not there even if they fill out the contract and take responsibility for the place.

@Phillip393 Many people say this is the case but I have never really seen where it is stated in the Ts&Cs
