SMS notifications stopped working Sep 8

I no longer get SMS notification when guests message me thru airbnb messaging system.  I do get email notifications. 

On my android phone, I notice SMS notifications stopped cold on Sep 8.  Prior to that, I got them consistently without fail, for years.

Strangely, I got SMS when a guest inquired about a stay, and I get SMS when airbnb asks to confirm your account so I know the phone number isn't in my block list or any issue with my phone number in the account.  But zero SMS when confirmed guests send a message.

Nothing changed in account settings, SMS notifications are ON.

Support suggests to turn OFF push notifications for airbnb app in my phone settings, which is counter-intuitive but they say this being ON somehow conflicts with SMS notifications due to some new bug.  I have turned it off per their suggestion to see what happens.

In summary, SMS notifications worked for years, didn't change any settings, does not work since Sep 8.

Obviously this negatively impacts response time communicating with guests.

Anybody else experience this and know a fix?  (other than the one suggested by support)

I experienced this and didn’t know why. Supposedly I was not getting SMS notifications on my iPhone but my partner who has an Android was getting SMS notifications when a guest messaged us. I thought it was a fluke until it was happening often over the past few days and I investigated my app settings and Airbnb’s settings on their platform and noticed that for some reason the SMS notification was turned off for guest messaging. I didn’t do this. This may be a bug due to some kind of update. I turned off then on notifications and made sure it was what I wanted and now I’m getting guest notifications again.
