Nobody got murdered in my household, so I guess it is not that crazy, but it is definitely somewhere up there.

But what I am truly disappointed by is how Airbnb handled it and how I ended up being the losing part on all fronts.

So this young man booked this room for a month a while ago. He said that he was a chef, and had overall nice reviews. Idk what happened in between his last stay and this situation, but whatever I got was INSANE.

So the guy moves in at 3 pm, I was home working on my trip plans (I was also planning to travel myself). He had like 15 huge luggage bags, I mean whatever, but it looked weird to me. 
Around 6 pm I hear some weird sounds coming from the room, I go there and I see an empty room (literally empty). So the guy dismantled my furniture and literally threw it away to the backyard (not even porch, legit to the ground all the way down in the garden). I am talking about a queen size bed, a/c, couch... legit everything. I was bit  shocked. I asked the guy what he was doing and he said, "my back hurts I wanna sleep on the floor".

In the process of doing that, the dude trashed all my neighbors plants, literally (I think he accidentally dropped furniture on plants). Neighbors are yelling at me rn. I said that this had to end and asked the guy to leave, obviously I'd give him a refund. 

Airbnb was horrible at handling this, they constantly misunderstood the situation. They thought the guy just reshuffled the furniture, which would be ok. They couldn't comprehend that the guy would literally throw things outside. Then the guy refused to leave, he left like at 11 pm, I almost thought about calling cops, I was late to my own booking, I asked Airbnb to cancel it but have the host (my destination) paid, they said: "Unfortunately, no".

This was insane. I ended up losing on my October rent, had to still pay for my booking I missed, plants are all destroyed, my neighbors hate me, bunch of stuff is still in the backyard I need to carry it back, and all topped by Airbnb saying: "Sorry for the inconvenience, is there anything else we can help you with". Duh. 

Lolz. Idk what to say.

PS: While renting, I was about to go to my 1 month trip. And it was all airbnbs, 2 days Brooklyn, 3 days Cape Cod, 2 weeks in Istambul and then Kazakhstan. Never on Earth I would think of emptying the apartment and throwing all the furniture at the places I was staying in, because I felt like reshuffling.

It is always educational to read what "guests" can do, which we can not imagine yourself.
So now we all have to update house rules:
"It is not allowed to dismantle furniture and throw it outside".  ;>)

I have had some bizarre guests, including one who would instant cup-of-soup, eat a couple of bites, then pour the rest on the floor.  But I have to say- never one who dismantled the furniture.  The closet I ever had was a older woman who pulled the bed away from the wall, upended the mattress from its frame, removed all the sheets and then looked under the water proof mattress cover.

If I had someone take apart the furniture, I would take a lot of pictures, charge for damages, and leave a horrible review.  The only reason I did not do the same for that woman was that she *did* in fact discover a dirty area under the bed the housekeeper missed.  She also said she would still leave a 5 star review after I got mad at her for bending the bed frame due to her pulling everything apart.  She kept her word and actually booked twice with me.

@Ermek0  When you said he was a chef, I was waiting for the knives to come out.  I never in a million years imagined furniture being tossed out into the back garden.

I'm pretty sure I would have called the cops, but on the other hand, I know Brooklyn cops, and I can only imagine THAT conversation.

I'm sorry you were treated this way and hope you get your much-needed vacation soon.

I hope he at least watered the furniture when he put it in the garden. How else will it bear fruit?

 

Be careful, though, you could end up with a really ugly floral couch. You can't expect a chef to be a gardening expert.

Truly bizarre and also disappointing that Airbnb handled this so badly (although not surprising given some of the other stories I've heard here recently). Personally, I would not offer a full refund if there was damage involved. Even if your furniture was all fine (doubtful), your neighbours should be compensated for their plants. I guess though that you just wanted this guy out asap, and I don't blame you!

Hi there!  I just discovered this page and I am absolutely laughing out loud.  Fun written story!  I hope to discover more stories like this as I read on.  It's incredible what happens.  I'd love to see a section on Airbnb web where hosts post all of their unusual and funny stories.  Thank you for making me laugh!

@Ermek0  I really don't even know what to say about someone throwing furniture OUT of the house, through the window and destroying someone else's garden. 

I would absolutely put in for damages both to your furniture and the neighbor's garden.  Take photos.  Make a claim.  What do you have to lose other than time and some sanity at the silly responses you will get from Airbnb.

Je dois dire que jusqu'à présent je suis toujours tombée sur des personnes très correctes qui louent ma chambre, je ne sais pas si c'est particulier à la Belgique 😁, j'ai toujours des couples charmants ou des personnes seules(plus rarement) qui sont très respectueuses

Malgré tout je prends mes précautions et quand c'est un homme seul qui loue, la nuit je ferme la porte de ma chambre à clefs 😁😜, je loue 1 seule chambre d'hôtes depuis juillet dernier et toute mon expérience reste encore à faire je suppose
