** The first month they guilt you into a discount like they are do gooders saving the world . Then they negotiate they want to stay longer but try and not pay up front as they should be . They try to pay outside arbnb and I refused . They then booked elsewhere after I blocked time for them and didn't pay for the extra night they stayed . They then went on to leave a bas review ans Arbnb didn't protect me .

@Danise5 in this case, your red flag was not that the guest was a travel nurse, but rather that they asked for a discount up front. You'll find that this usually means trouble ahead.
A decent person would never ask you to take a pay cut; they'd use the Price filter to find something that fit their budget. In the future, just say your prices offer great value as they are, and are final.
Sorry this happened to you. You have lots of great reviews, so hopefully future guests will see this one as an outlier.
However, I am not sure it's fair to make such a statement about travel nurses based on one bad experience. This was a bad guest, full stop. She would have been a bad guest whatever her profession.
The travel nurses I have hosted have been wonderful and are among my favourite guests. I was chatting to one of them just yesterday. Unfortunately my rooms are always already booked by the time they know their schedule, otherwise those nurses would be welcomed back as repeat guests and would have stayed with me several times by now. They never asked for any kind of discount, or to pay outside of Airbnb etc.
The only time I had a problem was with a travelling doctor. She was fine during her stay but needed to leave early. Airbnb CS messed up and over refunded her, which she agreed to. She said she would pay me back at some point in the future, but basically took the money and ran. That being said, I have hosted other travelling doctors without any issues at all. None of them asked for discounts due to their profession.
As @Anonymous says, asking for a discount is a bit of a red flag. On the other hand, it's pretty common when you host long term stays. I don't mind if someone asks for one because they are staying a while. I just explain that there is already a long term discount and I can't lower the price further. If the guest says fair enough and goes ahead and books, they usually turn out to be good guests. It's the ones that really push for a discount that I am wary of. I also don't appreciate it when people ask for a discount because my listing is 'above their budget', like that's my problem somehow. I am not here to subsidise a stranger's lifestyle. They need to book what they can afford, just like the rest of us.
For me though, the biggest red flag is your guest asking to pay off platform. I would never agree to this and basically wouldn't accept a guest who asked me to do it.
does anyone have the information to contact the visiting nurse program
@Danise5 My sister is a travelling nurse, and she has had short term and long term assignments all of the United States. Just because you ran into an individual who tried to pad her own pocket with the stipend that the agency paid for her housing does not mean that other nurses are not on the up and up.
Please when you speak about travel nurses don’t loop us all into that One experience you had with such disgusting personalities. I am a travel nurse and have never had such regard for someone’s time and or business and I am not a scammer so when you speak on an experience speak directly about that specific group and don’t loop us all in because all nurses and or travel nurses to be exact aren’t like that as you have made us out to be .
your fellow travel nurse , Lo
Yes Lorraine437 , I must agree with you, my daughter is a nurse and to try and say 'all nurses' when you only mean two people who may or may not be actual nurses is a bit low in the spectrum especially after what our loyal and amazing nurses have been through recently on behalf of countries through out the world....H
I don't think it's strange for people to ask for discounts up front for longer term stays. In my experience most travel nurses have 13 week assignments, and most properties only offer discounts on four week stays. I have some repeat clients who come in for three weeks at a time, and don't qualify for my four week discount. I work with them on the pricing, because I know they'll be back in a few months.
The key is to know your bottom line and your worth.
The rest of what you describe is bad behavior on their part. Ugh! Why do some people act that way? Sorry you had such a crummy experience.
When they tried to pay you off platform would have been a good time to report them to Airbnb. I know that sometimes people aren't thinking through the implications of going off platform when they propose it, and those people will accept a "no, I can't accept the risk to my business." But sometimes you get a gut feeling that they are not good actors and that's when you need to follow that instinct and report it.
It sounds like you were really trying to work with them and they didn't appreciate the effort. 😞
