U.S. Mail delivery at my air B and B

Hello,  I am considering allowing  a long term  (2 months) guest at my place.  Should I allow them to receive mail there?

Hi @Steve4037 ! We had a few discussions related to this topic of mail delivery, but they were more related to short term guests. I am sharing those discussions for reference : here , here and here .

I would also like to invite a few experienced Hosts who participated in similar discussions, in case they have any recommendations for mail delivery for long term guests : @Laura2592 @Gregory87 @Ian-And-Anne-Marie0 @Helen56 @Kitty-and-Creek0 @Ana2038 .

@Steve4037 , I agree with the responses here by other host(s). We have never offered listing as a long term stay for many reasons. One is not wanting to have any guest(s) turn into tenants (and then dealing with the landlord/tenant issues).

Yes! and here in California it is stickier than most other places!

The prevailing opinion on this seems to be that if a guest receives mail at your home, they can use that to establish residency there. This could end up being problematic; so, doing some legal research might be in your best interest. Also, around long term convenience, once the mail starts it is not always easy to stop it. You could be getting their mail, and junk mail, for long term at your address.  This is a good question and you should weigh your options after doing some research. There are mailbox storefronts just about everywhere, which could provide an alternative, and they would likely know the legal ins and outs of the service they provide.

@Steve4037   No. They should rent a box at the local post office.

Any mail or packages delivered to the property may be used to set up residency.   I actually removed the mailbox at one of my properties after advising the post office to stop delivery and renting a box for that address in my business name.

My reason?  A guest from 15 years ago who tried to change the utility bills and "acquire" the property.  They are out there....
